“…and these children that you spit on as they try to change their worlds are immune to your consultations. They’re quite aware of what they’re going through…” – David Bowie
This quote is one of the best quotes in the movie as the children in the quote reflect that of the main characters in the film. This quote reflects the parents and teachers in the movie as they are the ones who are harming them mentally. The end part of the quote where it says “they’re quite aware of what they’re going through…” directly relates to what Brian says at the beginning and end of the film when he mentions that “you see us as how you want to see us.”
“Yeah I got a question. Does Barry Manilow know that you raid his wardrobe?” – John Bender
Barry Manilow was an artist in the 70’s – 80’s producing some hit songs. He wore glamorous suits, some being shiny, velvet, or pattered, you could say that he had a very gay style. When Bender says this quote to Rich Vernon he immediately takes offence suggesting that if you had Barry’s style it was not to be proud of.
Quotes
“Dear Mr Vernon, we accept the fact that we had to sacrifice a whole Saturday in detention for whatever it was we did wrong. But we think you're crazy to make an essay telling you who we think we are. You see us as you want to see us - in the simplest terms, in the most convenient definitions. But what we found out is that each one of us is a brain, and an athlete, and a basket case, a princess, and a criminal. Does that answer your question? Sincerely yours, the Breakfast Club.
This quote is in direct reference to the quote at the beginning of the movie by David Bowie. It summarises all the themes and events that have gone on throughout the film, you begin to realise that all these characters are alike when they begin to open up to each other.
