Saturday the 24th of March, 1985 at Shermer high school, Shermer Illanios, 60062. Right at the beginning of the film we find out the date and place, and the end of the film we come to find out that what has been said at the beginning of the film is being said by Brian Johnson, this was the start of the essay that had been written for Principle Vernon. Culturally there had been changes in society during the early 80’s in particular, 1985’s divorce rate was 50%. This will have had a lot to do with how John Hughes set the characters, especially Bender. During the film Bender acts out what his scene at home is and how his dad seems to not treat his mum very well. We are not told much about each characters parents individually, or how they are together, all we know about them is their influence on their children. John Hughes was known during this time for his films about the life of teenagers in high school. The Breakfast Club was filmed at Maine North High School, a school that had been closed 4 years early, this was also where he film many scenes from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.
